As our centennial celebration approaches...
We are excited to have you all here for Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated! On January 13, 1913 our amazing organization was founded by twenty-two illustrious African-American collegiate women on the campus of Howard University. Delta Sigma Theta is committed to public service, through our initiatives under the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement. Delta Chapter was chartered on April 4, 1919 on the campus of University of Iowa by eight tantalizing women. The current chapter is elated of the legacy Delta Chapter holds and honored to bring in the centennial celebration.
The celebration will begin Thursday, April 4th, 2019 and conclude on Sunday April 7th, 2019, The Delta Chapter is working on creating a momentous occasion that will salute our charter members. We hope you will join us in celebrating our rich dynamic sisterhood, scholarship, and service!
Our theme is Blazing a Trail: 100 Years of Sisterhood. Delta Chapter has had honorable members such as Elizabeth Catlett, an African American artist who explored themes relating to race and feminism. She also was the first black woman to graduate with her MFA in the country. Also, Soror Helen Lemme allowed Black Iowa students without housing as a result of racial discrimination to stay with her family at the University of Iowa stay with her family or elsewhere in Iowa City. In addition to these two phenomenal women, our chapter is credited with having had the very first Delta House on a college campus. Our celebration will unite Sorors and re-commit our unwavering commitment to service and encourage future generations to aspire for greatness and success. We are thrilled for you to join us for our Centennial Celebration and we hope to see you there!
